Promoting education in Sierra Leone as a pathway out of poverty and toward better well-being.

Hope Notes

September 12, 2018

A big thanks to you for supporting and donating to our GoFundMe Campaign “Back to School Supplies Drive” in April. These supplies will benefit approximately 212 children of RoTumba Primary School, Hope Bilingual Primary School and Hope Academy Junior Secondary School in Sierra Leone. With your support, we raised $1,225.00, surpassing our goal of $1,000.00 to purchase these school supplies.

With the funds raised, we bought 200 drawstring sport packs, boxes of crayons, notebooks, packs of erasers, packs of pencils, and pack of pens. Each drawstring sport pack was stuffed with these supplies based on student grade/class level.

We would also like to thank our volunteers who helped with stuffing each sports pack with necessary supplies. They had fun in the process of making a difference in the lives of children miles away, and we’re looking forward to their assistance with this event next year.

Because of your support of “Back to School Supplies Drive”, together we are making a difference and giving hope to the children in these communities. The children are excited to begin their educational journey.

Our core values include Accountability and Transparency ensuring that donations are spent on our programs as prescribed and in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations. Our annual tax return (Form 990) filed with the IRS provides a clear picture of our financial activities as it relates to our programs and operations. The 2017 (Form 990) tax return has been completed and filed with the IRS. You are welcome to review it and provide any feedback!

In 2017, we saw an increase in total revenue compared to 2016. Hence, it positioned us to be able to complete the Three Communities Primary School Project in time for the 2018/2019 academic school year. EFH continues to be run as an all-volunteer organization, making sure that donations are spent directly on our programs and activities, resulting in a greater impact.

Many thanks for entrusting us with your hard-earned resources to make a difference in the lives of the forgotten.

Our Executive Director, Mr. Momodu W. Jalloh recently visited Sierra Leone to check on the status of the school for the Three Communities Primary School project. The library is complete and classrooms and office are furnished. The project team is currently finishing the interior and exterior painting and building the steps. The school is approximately 90% complete and it is on track to be opened in time for the 2018/2019 school academic year.

The Executive Director was very impressed with the progress of the project and is pleased with the work of the country’s Coordinator, project team, volunteers, residents of the villages, and village elders. He thanks them all for their efforts and support throughout the project.

The kids are excited and looking forward to the start of their educational journey in September.

Our thanks and appreciation to you for your trust and continued support of our programs. Without your support, we would not have been able to accomplish so much with so little.

Education for Hope had a successful fundraising event on Saturday April 22, 2017, at Avalon (First and M) in Washington, D.C. We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to you for coming out to support a great cause despite the rain - making Education for Hope a priority. Without you, we would not have been able to achieve our mission and vision, making a difference in the lives of the underprivileged children of Sierra Leone. With funds raised, we will complete the doors, windows, and ceiling of the school, and we will be able to finish the school in time for the 2017/2018 academic year.

Many thanks to Avalon’s management team and staff for allowing us to use their space to host the event. Without their generosity and kindness, this event would not have been possible.

If you were unable to attend the event and would like to make a contribution to the school’s project, please click on the link to make a donation. Thank you for your support! All donations are tax-deductible.

Please share Education for Hope’s mission with your network.

From time to time, we will send you updates of the school’s progress and activities; you may also visit our website ( to learn more about our activities.

The Kelly Rural Vocational Agricultural Secondary School in Hastings, Sierra Leone approached Education for Hope for assistance to build a fence around the school perimeter to prevent burglary and vandalism of its properties and assets. The school toilet facility is being used by unwelcome guests and people from the neighboring communities, leaving it filthy and destroying its components. Over the years, the school has faced multiple break-ins, resulting in property damage and loss of valuable educational resources. After school hours, its classrooms are being used as a leisurely and hang out spot by people in the surrounding areas.
The Kelly Rural Vocational Agricultural Secondary School is a government assisted institution and lacks additional funding to continuously repair and replace these assets. Additionally, the situation poses a high safety concern for its teachers and pupils as there is no single point of entry or access control. Although the school has a security staff, they are only able to cover a limited area. Furthermore, the pupils tend to skip classes after breaks resulting high absenteeism and poor grades.
In 2014, the school submitted a proposal requesting funding to build the fence, but due to lack of funds, more immediate focus of completing the Three Communities Primary School in Rogbomtama village, Port Loko district, and the devastating Ebola outbreak, Education for Hope was unable to fund the project. The situation is now urgent and dire and, as a result, EFH Board Member Mr. Sylvanus Davies was able to raise the funds necessary to construct the fence.
We are incredibly indebted to Mr. Davies for his efforts and generous donation in making this project a reality. The construction of the fence commenced on Monday, March 20 th , 2017, an intended completion date of May 31, 2017.
