EFH Establishes a Senior Secondary School (SSS1)
No Senior Secondary Schools are in the immediate area of the Hope Academy Primary and Junior Secondary schools. Students in the communities we serve who have completed Junior secondary school, passed the Basic Educational Certificate Examination (BECE), and want to further their studies are often left stranded, especially if they do not have relatives in the cities who will host them during the academic year and some parents lack the resources to send their children away. Most of the time, if they even find a relative to host them, they will be subjected to performing domestic duties, petty trading, babysitting, and fending independently, which defeats the purpose of pursuing an education. Girls are more vulnerable in this situation, which at times leads to dropout and teenage pregnancy.
Every year, more students attend Hope Academy Junior Secondary School, successfully pass the BECE exams, receive their BECE certificate, and are qualified to attend senior secondary school. The communities we serve, in a testament to their commitment to education, reached out to Education for Hope (EFH) to establish a Senior Secondary School (SSS 1) so their children can continue their educational journey locally and will be able to provide the support system and care they need.
With a co-partnership with the community, EFH established a Senior Secondary School for the 2023/2024 academic school year, with fifteen students, four girls, and eleven boys, pursuing their studies in Social Studies and Cultural Arts and Science and Technology. Additional teachers were brought in to staff this new program, which is held at the Hope Academy Primary and Junior Secondary schools in the afternoon after primary and junior secondary school classes conclude. Hope Academy Primary and Secondary Schools currently have 195 students enrolled.
Our long-term plan includes building a separate structure for the senior secondary school and additional housing for its growing faculty. Your donations and support have been instrumental in making the Senior Secondary School possible. You have turned the dreams of these students into a reality, and your continued support is crucial for the school's growth and development.
