Three Communities School Progress!
Three years ago, we were approached by three communities in the Port Loko District, Sierra Leone, for assistance to build a primary school for their communities, because they had none and their children had to walk many miles to attend the nearest school. The children that were not strong enough to embark on the treacherous journey to the nearest school simply did not attend, which left approximately 150 children without access to education.
We took on the challenge of building a school for these three communities to share. In December, 2013, we broke ground and started construction of the Three Communities Primary School in Rogbomtama village. The communities provided unskilled labor and local resources to assist with the project. However, the Ebola outbreak and other logistical challenges slowed construction.
With your contributions, we have now made tremendous progress, and in December, 2016, we completed the roofing of the school. The school structure is now 80% complete and will be ready for the 2017/2018 academic school year once the following have been achieved: installation of the doors, windows, and ceiling, plastering of the walls, painting the entire building, putting in the chalk boards, and purchasing tables and chairs.
The elders and children of these communities are very grateful for your support and investment in their well-being. They are very excited about the school’s progress and are anxiously waiting and looking forward to the school’s completion, so the children can begin their educational journey. They believe that learning how to read and write will help them become productive citizens. Those that embark on the treacherous journey daily to seek education will be able to attend school in their own community nearby, giving their parents peace of mind.
We are counting on your donations and support to finish this important school and make a dream come true for these communities.
